Best Food Festivals in Scotland
Eating and travelling are two of our favourite things to do so we like nothing better than planning a trip around a food festival to try tasty new things in glorious surroundings. We tend to like to get away to sunny climates when we get some holiday time, which means that we often give our home country of Scotland a bit of a miss but after doing some research into the sheer number of foodie festivals available on our doorstep we have resolved to spend some quality time on home soil and take in these yummy offerings:
When: Friday, 29th of June to Sunday, 1st of July. The main festival day is Saturday, 30th of June.
Where: Most of the festivities take place at the Isle of Arran Distillery in Lochranza on the north of the island.
Why we want to go: We genuinely love the whisky that these guys distil up! Not only are there opportunities to tour the distillery there are masterclasses on tasting to attend, live tunes that will have you dancing all day and of course that great Scottish tradition: a rocking ceilidh where you can get drunk on dizzy never mind the amber stuff!
When: Friday, 25th of May – Sunday, 27th of May
Where: Monachycle Mhor Farm in Balquhidder, Perthshire is only an hour and a half drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh. You can even cycle there by bike path or, if you are feeling fancy, take a seaplane to Loch Lomond to arrive in style.
Why we want to go: This is the perfect combo of food, music, theatre and art. Even though it’s not that far away from the big smokes of Scotland, you feel like you are in a totally different world. Not only can you see top Scottish chefs in action there is a huge array of workshops to take part in and no shortage of entertainment. From a cinema in a yurt to circus skills and a constant flow of music, we cant wait!
Aberdeen Vegan Festival
When: Sunday, 8th of July
Where: Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen
Why we want to go: Even though we are not vegan we do love the innovation that goes into creating and crafting Vegan goodies. This will be the second year of the festival in the granite city of Aberdeen and we can’t wait to get our hands on some free samples and shop the wares of food and clothes on offer. Talks and classes also abound!
